The Real McCain
The Truth About The 'Straight-Talk-Express'
Foreign policy is supposed to be his specialty, the reason people
might vote for him, especially regarding issues with the Iraq war.
But he has so many major facts wrong, it's just astounding, and
very dangerous. And he doesn't say the wrong thing once, he does
it over and over again.
There are several possibilities as to why he's wrong, all of them
bad: he's senile or some other condition, he's simply not very
bright, or he's lying. It may be one, or some, or all of these,
but in any case, he's clearly unfit to be the next president.
The media has been giving McCain a pass for years. Even McCain
calls the media his base, because they fawn over him so much
and don't challenge him or ask tough questions, especially
follow-up questions.
Here is a list I started on his serious, and very scary errors:
- McCain was a
leading cheerleader and architect for the illegal Iraq war,
constantly telling the Bush Administration lies about Iraq having
WMD's and still
claims that's what everyone thought.
- He
repeatedly confuses the religions of Al Qaida (Sunni) with
Iran (Shia), thinking Al Qaida is in cahoots with the other, a
ridiculous proposition, just as it was when Cheney lied linking
Saddam to Bin Laden. The Sunni / Shia claim is a major error and
should have all but ended his candidacy, but the press (Brit Hume
on Fox News) called it a minor
blip and a senior moment. The media then stopped covering
the story.
- Said
the Anbar Awakening was created by the surge when the Anbar
Awakening started in 2006 and the surge started in 2007.
- Claimed there is a serious
situation on the Iraq / Pakistan Iraq border, a border
that doesn't exist. They are over 1,000 miles apart - see
map.
- And he
often talks about Czechoslovakia, which hasn't existed since
1993.
- Too many people will die if we have another thoughtless
ideologue who can't think any better than George W. Bush.
The Real McCain.
- McCain
pushed hard for invading Iraq, claiming the Iraq war will be
'easy', and 'not very difficult', with grateful Iraqi's
(YouTube video compilation), while lying about claiming he
opposed it. McCain was and is a major player in telling
lies about Iraq having WMD's and covering up the truth;
lies that led to the illegal invasion of Iraq.
- McCain
supports Bush tax cuts for richest 1% of Americans, like
himself.
- He
wants to privatize Social Security. Essentially wants to
privatize just about all government services, like the military,
education, you name it.
- Opposes
providing healthcare like he has for all Americans. He's
been kept alive by government healthcare nearly all his life.
Wants Americans to find insurance themselves on the open market.
- He cites as his "biggest" legislative victory of that era a
1989 bill that abolished catastrophic health insurance for
seniors, a move he still cheers as the first-ever repeal of a
federal entitlement program.
- His anti-government fervor was renewed in the Gingrich
revolution of 1994, when he
called for abolishing the departments of Education and Energy.
- Opposed
the recent GI bill that was passed in spite of him. McCain
has repeatedly voted against helping veterans while saying he
supports them. Incredible. He ended up skipping the vote and
didn't show up.
- Voted
against preventing the CIA from torturing prisoners. This
allows
them to waterboard, or whatever else they can dream up.
- Favors the missile defense shield (Star
Wars).
- Opposed
creation of a Martin Luther King holiday.
- Supports
school vouchers, and opposes teacher's unions. He
essentially wants to gut public schooling and give the money to
private schools.
- Voted
against the assault weapons ban and the Brady Bill.
- Favors
nuclear power in a thoughtless dangerous way with no clear
way of dealing with the complexities of this issue.
- Opposes hate
crime legislation.
- Appears
to support teaching creationism under the 'Intelligent
Design' label in schools.
- Wants just
abstinence only sex education taught, not comprehensive
sex education and birth control.
- Opposes
civil unions for same sex couples that would provide them
the same benefits as heterosexual couples, like being eligible
for healthcare, or hospital rights. He also opposes gay
marriage.
- Supports
essentially killing the Estate Tax by raising the minimum to 5
million from 1 million, affecting only the richest 1% of
Americans.
- Has shown he doesn't
know the difference, (and
not just once), between the religions of Al-Qaida (Sunni)
and the majority of Iraq and Iran (Shia). So, he doesn't know
what the fighting is about.
- While
visiting a market in Iraq, he said you could walk freely in
Iraq – while wearing a flax jacket and surrounded by
soldiers. And said
Petraeus goes out in an unarmed Humvee, also untrue.
- Spoke
at Jerry Falwell's university after calling him an 'agent
of intolerance' in 2000.
- McCain
hired Tucker Eskew who smeared him in 2000 in order to
help him with his campaign against Obama. The
horrible attack Tucker Eskew and Bush hit McCain with
essentially ended McCain's bid for the presidency, and is
legendary in the history of dirty tricks and smears. At the
time, McCain said there was a special place in hell for people
like Eskew. Apparently that means working for him now and doing
similar things against Obama.
- Was raised Episcopalian and went to those schools, but claimed
he was Baptist when campaigning in South Carolina (heavily
Baptist), although he's never been baptized at the age of
consent, as the Baptist religion requires. Who is this guy?
- Member of the
Keating 5 scandal. He got huge contributions and worked to
protect Keating, a screwed up prosecution – for instance: the
federal conviction was overturned because jurors had heard about
his state conviction, and his state charges because Judge Lance
Ito (yes, that judge) screwed up jury instructions.
- Wants to
overturn Roe v. Wade, in order to outlaw abortions and a
woman's right to choose. He would appoint Supreme Court justices
who will overturn Roe v. Wade. They will rule for corporations
and against the people.
- His
Supreme Court appointments would be modeled after Alito
and Roberts, who are extreme conservatives and would be a
disaster in other areas besides Roe v. Wade. Incredibly, McCain
said the recent court decision to uphold Habeas Corpus was one
of the
worst in history!
